ANGLIAN ARTISTS EXHIBITION IN AID OF BREAST CANCER CARE

CLARE TOWN HALL, CLARE, SUFFOLK CO10 8NN

Private View 22nd May 6 to 9pm Exhibition May 23rd to 25th 10am to 5pm

We don’t expect breast cancer to hit the young and fit, but 3 years ago this is exactly what happened to a member of Sue Eaton’s family. Happily, she has made a good recovery, but when Sue heard about the fundraising challenge of a 5 day trek on the Great Wall of China in September this year, she wanted to support the charity that helps every person affected by breast cancer to get the best treatment, information and support and so she chose Breast Cancer Care for the minimum of £2,800 she plans to raise.

Sue, with husband, Tony, have trekked trails in the Arctic & New Zealand, the Indian sub-continent & South America, Scotland’s west coast, Northumberland the Yorkshire peaks and Pembrokeshire. To keep fit, they do indoor cycling regularly and walk their dog, Nemo, daily.

Being an artist, an exhibition was the obvious choice for Sue’s fund raising. 26 of East Anglia’s best artists have been invited, each a master in their chosen medium and sufficiently diverse to provide an eclectic mix.

Sue is a member of a number of societies, including the Society of East Anglian

Watercolourists, the Suffolk Art Society, the Cambridge Drawing Society and Suffolk Open

Studios. Sue also exhibits in Snape Maltings Gallery and the Aubrey Gallery, Great Dunmow and has exhibited in the Mall Galleries, London. All the artists are known to Sue, they also exhibit widely and have been selected to give a wide range of styles: figurative to abstract; watercolours, acrylics, pastels, oils, linocut and woodcut prints - something for everyone. Catherine Allen will also be showing her unique jewellery, handmade lampwork glass beads teamed with silver.

The 26 artists exhibiting are Lillias August, Jan Couling, Joyce Crabbe, Gillian Crossley-Holland, China Deburnay, Sue Eaton, Brin Edwards, Andy English, Kevin Franks, Margaret

Glass, John Glover, Carol Goodchild, Emma Green, Elizabeth James, Sandy Larkman, Chris Lockwood, Ruth McCabe, Anthony Osler, Sylvia Paul, Andrew Pitt, Elaine Purcell, Paul Vousden, Michele Webber, Tony White, Bryan Whiteley and Nat Young.

Clare is a superb venue as its Town Hall is large and opens directly onto the market square in this small and delightful old wool town, close to Long Melford and Lavenham. Entrance to the exhibition is free and there will be a prize draw for donated paintings, with a homemade cake cafe running for the 3-day event.

Artists entrance fees and commission on sales, proceeds from the cake cafe and the prize draw takings will all go to Breast Cancer Care. The £5 ticket money for the Private View and the prize raffle ticket money raised that evening will also go to Breast Cancer Care.

Generous sponsorship from local businesses, who are paying the expenses including printing, some wine for the Private View, the hanging screens for paintings and rental of the Town Hall, means all money raised will go to Breast Cancer Care. The expenses of the trek in China will be paid by Sue and Tony.
